About The Library
The Young Men’s Association (Town Library) was established in the year 1908 as a Baidyabati Yubak Samity. In the year 1980-1981 it became sponsored (govt.) Town Library. The Centenary celebration was held on 18th Oct 2009. It has 35,000 (approx) books including rare and valuable books dating back to 1800. It also has 1st edition of some books, old Periodicals in Bengali and English languages which are now 100 years old. The library Manuscripts collection consist of rare ‘Puthies’ made of Palm leaves and hand made paper dating back to 471 Shakabda and 495 A.D collected from various districts of West Bengal. Historian Jadunath Sarkar, Abanindranath Tagore, Kazi Najrul Islam, Ashapurna Devi, Sunil Gangopadhayay visited this library time to time during different occasions since it had been established.
