About The Library

“Dhulian” town was popularly known as “Kanchantala” . It was a well known village at that time . Land Lords of this village were very popular for their charitable work. The Land on which these Library, Primary School and Milan Mandir are situated was previously donated to ‘Gandhi Ashram’ by the local land lords  for the industrial development purpose .  Late Balendranath Roy, Late Sourendranath Roy, Late Sripatibhushan Das, Late Kali Kumar Gupta etc were the members of the Gandhi Ashram Committee .After some times this committee felt the necessity  of a library for the local people and donated the land for this purpose. In 1957 this library was established as a village library and was named as “ Kanchantala Pallikalyan Gandhi Ashram Library”. Later this place was succumbed by the river Ganga. After that “Kanchantala” was recognized as “Dhulian Municipality” and the library was upgraded to “Dhulian Town Library “.
